Multimedia Artist, Mask-maker and Photographer

Mask-making:   The mask has ancient roots as a symbol of power and creativity. It was used by the great Shaman traditions of every known culture as an instrument for obtaining wisdom, gaining protection, seeking guidance, celebrating rites of passage, and for healing. The mask is a way of reconnecting the "dreaming soul" with the everyday living self.

Jean experiences the process of mask-making as creative, intuitive and powerful.  “While creating a new mask, I sense that something deeply mysterious is about to reveal itself. I  am inspired to create without any concern of outcome and at some point in the process, the mask seems to ‘wake-up’ - taking on a life of its own. I am deeply inspired and guided by this ancient art form.”

Jean creates original masks and offers both private and group sessions to assist others in creating their personal mask. Participants are guided on an inner journey where they often discover and reveal powerful elements about themselves .

Jean also creates artistic, personally decorated belly casts for pregnant women.

Photography: Jean delights in capturing the “magical moments” that tell a story - be it the beauty of nature, the moment a couple exchange their sacred vows of marriage, or the child that is joyously laughing and spinning in the morning sunlight. Artistically she is especially drawn to capturing the light - both outside and within the source.

Multimedia art: For more than 20 years, Jean has created jewelry, sculpture, collages and paintings. She adores working with objects found in nature (shells, bark, feathers, stones, sand, crystals and gems,  etc.) and any medium that brings in the texture and color (paint, plaster, clay, beads, glass, etc.) Additionally, she has worked as a director for many theatre productions and created the art for set and costume design.
